Rob Bell – Love Wins & The “h” – Word

With the eminent release of Rob Bell’s new book, Love Wins, a “brouhaha” has been raging. Most of the conservative Christian bloggers commented on the video released concerning the new book. (

The issue in question is universalism, def: “theological doctrine that all human beings will eventually be saved” – Merriam Webster. The issue has attracted criticism from many a pastor and prominent bloggers amongst which are Justin Taylor, Kevin DeYoung, Mark Driscoll and John Piper.

Justin Taylor in Rob Bell: Universalist

John Piper’s Twitter message: “Farewell Rob Bell.

Mark Driscoll’s Twitter message: “You deserve hell. Everything else is a gift.

Kevin DeYoung in Two Thoughts on the Rob Bell Brouhaha:

“We don’t have to guess if Bell will say something dreadfully, horribly, disgracefully wrong.

He already has.”

These comments from well respected leaders in the Christian community has also attracted many comments from outside the Christian community, including CNN Firestorm Grows of “Christian Heresy” book and Huffington Post (here).

A helpful, insightful blog post by Reid Monaghan is worth the read, How You Flow Does Matter…

Central to Reformed, Protestant Christian belief is the reality of sin, of hell (Matthew 25:46 “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.“) and thus the understanding of the goodness of God (John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.“).
